3 Day long bow making course

Ages: 16 and over. Price: £250 per person

Learn to make a bow as Apollo or Artemis did over this 3 day workshop and take home a fully functional Ash ‘Holmegaard’ bow as well as a self made arrow using only hand tools and elbow grease. The course content is provided by the very talented Wayne Jones from Forest Knights. This course is limited to no more than 8 people to insure proper supervision and to guarantee one to one guidance is available as and when its needed.

On the course you will:

Learn Bow Design and the history of bow making through the ages.
Learn how to choose and prepare wood
Use simple hand tools to produce a primitive bow from a roughly split Ash stave
Guide you through the rough shaping with an axe
Learn carving techniques using drawknives, spokeshaves and planes; and finishing with rasps and scrapers, as well as help you to recognise where to remove wood and advise on how to handle any character in the wood.
Learn to achieve a good tiller
Learn how to finish the bow to make sure it has a the longest possible life
Make a Flemish twist laid bow string made from natural hemp
Make at least one feather fletched self knocked arrow.

All evening meals and refreshments (lunch and breakfast not included but equipment for self catering provided).

Evening entertainment around a camp fire.
