Prometheus has years of experience providing a range of services for youth groups, from fun
days out to badge completion and camps. Joe Peartree, the owner of Prometheus, also volunteers for
the Corfe Mullen Explorers unit every Monday evening and so knows what is needed and required
from youngsters in youth associations and is Scout registered and Scout DBS checked.
We understand the cost to parents when joining any youth group or starting a hobby and so we like
to keep all prices for children and young adults at a bare minimum. All our services are completely
bespoke and prices can fit any budget. We have a qualified chef on the team so all food will be
safely catered for as well as being able to provide expertise in any cooking badges or activities. We
can come to your hut or school or you may wish to use the Prometheus Base Camp located on
Beacon Hill, Lytchett Minster, Dorset.
Scouting badges:
We offer training days for youth groups to provide a full badge completion in one or 2 sessions.
That way the child will be able to start the day or camp, learn and practise the skill or technique
required, and then be awarded the badge at the end of the day or camp to go home with. We can also
provide part completion of other badges and goals.

Camps
Prometheus has several sites that we can run overnight camps from. All sites have hard standing
parking but otherwise are designed to be a wilderness woodland experience. The areas have no
running water, although water can be provided for your stay in water containers. The toilets are
either chemical toilets or long drop style facilities. There will always be at least one parachute up as
a canopy, seating for up to 30, as well as kitchen area for cooking. Fires can be used at all the sites.
All camps must include some instruction from Prometheus staff for facilities to be used. POA.

Staff training
We can provide training to all instructors and
junior leaders in the art of Bushcraft, Survival
Techniques and Primitive Living. Whether you need to
brush up on existing skills or learn a new skill to pass
on to your group, Prometheus can help with your
development. We offer bespoke ‘train the trainer’ style
courses geared to provide specific and specialised
instruction. Please look under the ‘bespoke’ tab to find
a list of subjects you may wish to include in your
course.
Schools
In recent studies only four in 10 children have ever seen a hedgehog. That statistic is quite alarming.
According to Sir Richard Attenborough, youngsters are becoming ‘physically, mentally and
spiritually, impoverished’ because they rarely experience the natural world and that they seldom
venture into Britain’s forests, fells and national parks to learn about the country’s wildlife. In fact,
only one in 10 children play in wild areas of Britain.
Prometheus Earth Skills offers a service to schools and youth groups to re-connect children to the
countryside in a fun and informative way, but also on a much deeper level. We aim to use nature to
make children healthier, more creative, happier, and to be to be spiritually connected to their
environment and learn to appreciate and take ownership of the countryside. We also aim to give
children a feeling of thrill and excitement as we know children learn more if they enjoy the tasks
they are set as well as empower teachers and schools to ensure children engage with nature on a
regular basis
SMSC- Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development at Prometheus
Prometheus recognises the Ofsted recommendation for SMSC in British schools and we are able to
help students develop in these areas. We can also help schools when being graded in SMSC by
Ofsted by promoting British values. Our activities encourage students to accept responsibility for
their behaviour, show initiative and enable students to distinguish right from wrong. We teach
students about Countryside Institutions and their importance within society as a whole as well as
how they operate locally. We teach different cultural historical traditions with regards to earth skills
and ancient practises and find harmony with these old traditions and modern day practises. We aim
to enable students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence.
Spiritual and moral development:The activities we practise here at Prometheus teach students to
learn about oneself, others and the surrounding world in an outdoor, woodland environment and
encourages them to use imagination and creativity. Time is allocated for a chance to reflect on their
experience before, during and after each activity and there is opportunity to convey feelings and
thoughts in a group format.
Social and cultural development: Using a range of nature based games and activities we aim to
engage children in social interaction, often with social peer groups they don’t regularly interact
with. Team building and ice breaking challenges force children to communicate, cooperate, resolve
conflict and appreciate each other’s viewpoints whilst getting them all to work together to complete
a certain task.
What we do
Prometheus has run many days for schools all over
the south coast of England. Maybe you have a
specific theme you are running with your class i.e.
stone age and bronze age living or survival
practises, then Prometheus can help you out. Or
maybe, you just want a fun day out.
Each course offered to schools are completely
bespoke. We can tailor make courses to fit the
needs of the school as well as certain themes or
topics the school group are participating in. This can be environmental studies, ancient living and
history, survival, wildlife watching or just team building and ice breaking for new year groups.
Below is a list of activities we currently use for school groups however, if there is something not
included below that we may be able to include, please don’t hesitate to get in contact to find out if it
is possible.
Team building:
• We run a series of team building activities designed to get children to communicate and work
together to achieve a certain goal. These games include the human knot, flash-flood, catching and
throwing games like stinger, circle games, shelter building, trust based games, building a clay oven

Using the senses:
•We understand it’s important to develop a child’s full range of senses and our games and
activities awaken these to the fullest. These include sneaky assault courses and stealth
games, how to walk and be quiet whilst getting from a to b in the woods and guard a tree
(similar to tag)
•Noise games where you have to use your hearing to find where the noise is coming from
•Smell games like the garlic trail
•Orienteering with maps and orienteering using natures signs
•We also include activities where children get to touch animal skins as well as eat some wild
foods
Motor skill development:
We include skill activities that all levels of fitness and ability can achieve. Below are some
examples.
•Fire making, including the law and safety
•Craft work. Using knives in a safe way and cutting techniques (for the older students).
Making pencils, dream catchers, wands and other creative projects (for younger students)
•Archery
•The slack line
•Shelter building
•Knots, hitches and lashings
Environmental education
•Nature walk, tree and plant identification and edible, medicinal and historical uses
•Animal tracking, trailing and sign
•Wildlife watching
•Countryside management techniques like coppicing, felling and grazing
•Finding and purifying water
•The importance of looking after our world and the consequences if we don’t
Catering
We like to include some aspect of catering to our classes to inform students where our food comes
from as well as to promote healthy eating and life styles. This can be as simple as making bread or
pizza over the fire, to more complex activities like skinning and butchering rabbit and everything in

All of the staff at Prometheus have a full DBS enhanced disclosure and are either ex teachers or
currently work within an education sector for youth. Please get in contact for our children and

Forest schools
Prometheus regularly helps out with forest schools. Joe
Peartree is currently doing his level 3 forest school and so we know
the importance of child led sessions and the kinaesthetic approach to
learning. Allowing children to learn through play is very important as
well as allowing them to make mistakes. We fully understand the
concept of Forest School and want to support and promote it as best
we can. Maybe you would like to introduce a new subject you are not
comfortable teaching your self, like foraging or small game butchery.
Maybe you would like assistance in running a residential for your
Forest School? Maybe you would like advice on designing your
Forest School to maximise the natural play format. We can assist with
all aspects of your Forest School, from providing freelance support
for trainee leaders to designing activities for all ages and abilities.
